Horatio's Garden have absolutely stunning outdoor spaces. The purpose is to nurture the physical and mental wellbeing of Spinal Injury patients after a tragedy. There are 8 gardens in total across the UK that are all adjacent to the Spinal Injury Units. It gives them the ability to enjoy the nature with their loved ones without having to travel too far. The gardens are made to be easy for those with spinal injuries to get around and navigate. They also hold several events here to entertain patients and family such as Fairs and doing activities like crafting.
Horatio's Garden began taking shape in 2010, when young Horatio volunteered at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury. He realised during his time there that there was a lack of outdoor space for patients with spinal injuries and their families. After speaking with his parents who suggested it was a wonderful idea, plans began taking place. Sadly, Horatio's life was cut short due to a tragic polar bear attack to Svalbard. This devastating outcome led a flood load of donations to appear so that his garden concept could be created. It has since grown and Horatio's legacy will sure live on.
Sinclair & Rush have partnered with Horatio's Garden in Aylesbury. Adjacent to the Stoke Mandeville Hospital. They have the largest Spinal Injury unit in the country! Robert, who volunteers there helping with general maintenance and other tasks, got in touch with us and explained the fantastic work that the Garden does and the positive impact it has on patients and we have since donated 64 pieces of our Black Tubing Inserts / Chair Feet to this great cause. Our Inserts have been used to prolong the life of the current visitors chairs. Robert has freshened up these chairs and the metal legs were even becoming worn! The issues this caused were damage to the flooring as bare metal was scrapping along it. Alongside the chairs themselves becoming ready for the bin. By using our Tubing Inserts as chair feet Robert was able to save the chairs and give them more life!
