Getting to know Millie, Accounts Co-Ordinator (Maternity cover Accounts & Purchasing Manager)

Under the Spotlight

Millie - Accounts Co- Ordinator & currently maternity cover Accounts & Purchasing Manager

The purpose of this is for our people to get to know you a little bit better, in a fun and relaxing way.

So let’s get right into it…

First of all, congratulations on your 5 year Work Anniversary. I cannot believe it has been only 5 years – it feels as if you have been part of our family for so much longer.

You joined Sinclair & Rush during a time of transition within the Accounts Department. Janet Burke had just left after more than 25 years of service, Louise Coveney (then Martin) had only just been appointed to the role of Accounts & Purchasing Manager.

From day one, it became clear that you needed to be “at the top of your game”, to learn the job super-quickly and to be a support for Louise. It was clear for all to see that you literally threw yourself boots & all into your role and very quickly became a reliable and valuable asset to the company.

My question to you is this.. If you think back to those early days at S&R, how did you cope? How did you manage the workload and the responsibility of it all?

"More on the basis that you gave me a chance. I was studying Accounting at the time, because I knew that’s what I wanted to do, but I had no previous experience in working in Accounts. I felt so grateful for being given this opportunity to prove myself. I knew I wanted to put the work in and I just needed someone to trust me and give me the opportunity. I wanted to put my all in and become a valuable employee who could be counted on."

You and Louise very quickly formed a solid partnership with very similar work ethics, and I recall her telling me on more than one occasion how happy she was that we had offered the job to you, following the interview process.
Has the position lived up to what you had anticipated?

"150%!! Louise and I were very lucky because not everyone necessarily gets on with each other like we did and still do – we make a good team. And it makes me want to do so much more.

The job is more than what I had anticipated - in every respect. More work but also more satisfaction as well.

It was nice to be in a career and job that I enjoyed and where I could grow. I know this is the right fit for me and it’s really nice to know that I’m in the career that’s right for me, where the numbers add up and where I feel I am meant to be.

Having said that, all credit to Louise – I am only a product of her. Had I not had a manager, role-model and mentor like her I don’t think I would have achieved what I have so far.

I think I just consider myself very lucky. Right Job. Right Company. Right People."

In the past five years, we have shared in your excitement of becoming Mrs Treadwell as well as witnessing your dream of becoming a mum to your gorgeous little daughter Libby. Difficult question I know because she is still so young, but have you thought about what career advice you would give Libby one day?

"I do think about it yes and the one thing I would say to her is “Do what makes you happy”. Literally. That’s what my mum always told me. Accounts is what makes me happy and I want her to find what makes her happy too. Money comes and goes but happiness is what lasts forever. I will support her in whatever she does, as long as she’s happy. That’s all that matters to me."

What do you do to relax when you’re not at work?

"Like most new mums and dads, everything we do is centred around Libby. We go out for walks and do anything outdoors that makes her happy, like swimming and playing etc.

We don’t do as much as we used to but we enjoy watching films and playing video games together.

A hobby that I have started since Libby’s birth is creating photo albums of her where I record date, where and who. I think this is so important for when Libby grows up and hopefully something that she will treasure and enjoy. Collecting family tree memorabilia is something that both Chris and I enjoy."

Just a few more fun questions before I let you go…
