Since the introduction of the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) on 1st April 2022, businesses across the UK have been adjusting their practices to comply with the new regulations. At Sinclair & Rush, we’ve responded by actively developing and introducing new product ranges that contain at least 30% recycled content, which makes them exempt from this tax.

However, it appears there is still considerable confusion across the country about what the tax means in practice and who needs to take action. According to Circular Online, as of August 2022, only 992 UK businesses had registered to pay the tax, despite government expectations that over 20,000 would be affected.

As is often the case with new legislation, the early stages have brought uncertainty. In response, HMRC has been contacting businesses to encourage registration where applicable and ensure appropriate compliance. They have also issued practical guidance notes and checklists to help companies understand their responsibilities.
