Maidstone to Monaco for Wells in Africa

21-06-2015

With one final check of what Clarkson would call their ‘reasonably priced cars’, routes confirmed, tents packed and emotional ‘bon voyages’ messages exchanged with families left behind, Paul Gardner once again led the Sinclair & Rush team on the Maidstone to Monaco Charity Rally.

We left from Maidstone, crossed the Channel and blazed a trail through Europe to the Alps. Then climbed up and over the white capped mountains, through the hairy Furka Pass, and on to Monaco – all in the name of one fantastic charity.

This is the Maidstone rally team waiting at Dover:

...a hairy stop over

...with a strange green friend

...boy it was cold up there

...our luxury accommodation

...ready to hit the road - again!

...waiting at Calais - oh for the White Cliffs and home

...but all in a great cause. Please, please read on:

S&R’s part in the Maidstone to Monaco ‘Banger’ Rally was to raise much needed funds for Parenta Trust, incorporating 'Fields of Life'. This wonderful and innovative charity works hard – hands on – to vastly improve the lives of the children and families of the rural communities of borderland Uganda and Kenya.

Every day women and children spend many hours on long arduous journeys to fetch water so dirty we wouldn’t even wash our cars in it. Every 20 seconds a child dies from waterborne diseases. What a thought.

Fields of Life drill wells to provide fresh drinking water and build schools to educate the children of eastern Africa. Each project is turned into a business. Managers are mentored to deliver sustainable resources locally, so that school, water and farming become self-sufficient within each of the communities the charity helps.

The children gain two basic assets for life - water and education - and their parents the guidance to grow and sell crops. As well as nourishing their families, they contribute financially to the running of their village schools. School managers are taught how to claim and maintain authority and charitable grants enabling Parenta Trust to move its own resources to fund and manage fresh projects elsewhere.

Sinclair & Rush Ltd are proud supporters of and active fundraisers for Fields of Life - a wonderful charity drilling wells and building schools for rural communities in Eastern Africa.

Now we're back from Monaco, the next project is for an S&R team to walk this year's Thames Path Challenge. We are walking 50km for Fields of Life. Through every step we'll see the Thames on its way to the sea and think of the water we'll be providing where it's needed most.
