The new Plastic Tax

What does it mean & who is it affecting?

So, in a recent poll, we asked you all "Has the new Plastic Packaging Tax brought in on 1st April 2022, changed your attitude towards using plastic packaging?" We asked this, because protecting our environment has become more and more important in the recent years due to Global Warming, and this tax is to try to work towards using as much recycled Plastic as possible to help the world & the landfill waste build ups.

In our industry, some of our products are of course Plastic Packaging, so its important to us, and other Manufacturers of similar products to find out what the Consumers think about the new Tax & if it has affected their choice to use the packaging or not! The results are interesting... At Sinclair & Rush, we are constantly re-creating ideas and are aiming to be as economical as possible, whilst still delivering our customers with the suitable parts they need. We have done this by adapting several recycled products in our range such as our new recycled protective sleeving, which is indeed exempt from plastic packaging tax!

According to the Government website, a general description of this new Tax is as follows: "This is a new tax that will apply to plastic packaging manufactured in, or imported into the UK, that does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic. Plastic packaging is packaging that is predominantly plastic by weight."

We have ensured that any of our Plastic Packaging and the addition cost is incorporated into the sell price & we manage all of this for you so its not something our customers need to consider. We have already dealt with it.

Anyway, back to the poll results! The results are as follows:

29% yes
71% no

It appears that the majority of those involved in taking our poll, are not affected by this new Plastic Packaging Tax and will still use the packaging as required. It is un-avoidable as with all taxes, and ultimately this tax, is working towards the end goal of re-using as much waste as possibly to help our World! Similarly, some other reasons why those have voted "no" is because they have no more time to re-source / change their current process, due to running their businesses and the constant pressures this puts companies under! They simply have no other option.

There are however, still 29% who said yes, it has changed their views to using plastic packaging and they will be trying to change their current processes to avoid this additional tax. Such as, reduce the amount they are using by being conscious of what they actually need to use & take the time to try and source other packaging elsewhere that is 30% recycled.

We would love to hear more from you about why you said yes, or no to this question and what Plastic Packaging Tax means to you and your Business? Please respond to this article / blog by commenting or messaging on the social media channel you have seen this on!
